Well friends, we’ve made it almost an entire month into 2020! How’s it going? I’ve been overwhelmed by both stressors and blessings so far this year, but either way I’m looking forward to the change I hope is coming. One of the best distractions from all of that has been this blog. I’m grateful for a platform that allows me to share my experiences with an egg allergy in Columbus. I can’t believe it’s already time for yet another restaurant review!

On that note, let’s talk about one of my absolute favorite Columbus restaurants – Condado. In my first few months after moving to the city, I was invited by some friends to march in the Pride Parade. Afterwards, we needed to find some food. As a complete and total stranger to the options in town, I let my friends pick the spot. Their decision to take me to Condado was life changing.

The Drinks

Bubbles + Blush: A Sparkling Margarita Cocktail

First off, you’re going to want a drink. I’ve yet to meet a cocktail at Condado that I did not completely enjoy! The house margaritas are incredible AND you can add a flavor for just a dollar more. I definitely recommend the blood orange margarita, or Bubbles + Blush (pictured above) if you want to be fancy about it.

The Queso

Friends, believe me, you need to get this queso. Truly, a trip to Condado without queso is incomplete. I mean, look at it!!

For the record, this is the Queso Blanco. They have several queso options, but this is the one I always get! It’s simple and so tasty!

It’s creamy, it’s gooey, it’s yummy! Seriously, I promise you will not regret it.

If salsas and guacamole are your thing they have those too. With three different flavors of guac (plus a flavor of the month), you’re sure to find what you’re looking for. Want to try a couple of these? Try “Three Buds” which allows you to get any combination of three salsas, guacamoles, or quesos. You can also mix and match for a truly delicious line-up!

The Ordering

Allow me to introduce you to the most fun scantron you’ll ever encounter.

The Condado experience mostly exists in the “choose your own adventure” format. The best part is that next to each and every option on this spreadsheet denotes vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options! Unsure of how to start? There’s a second paper with some suggested options for you to try out!

The Tacos

You hold the power of your taco in your hand. Consequently, this list may seem overwhelming at first. Let me assure you that as long as you’re mindful of the spice levels listed, you cannot go wrong. Fair warning, if they say it’s spicy then it’s definitely spicy. They do not mess around in that department. It’s not a bad thing, but I’d recommend exercising some caution.

Left to Right: Pulled Pork and Chicken Tacos. Both with the Sweet Lucy Shell!

In order to get the most out of your experience at Condado, you’re going to have to open yourself up to chance. Never had jackfruit before? Give it a go! Try that sauce you think might be interesting.

Incidentally, the sauces are really the only spot in the entire menu where you need to be vigilant if you have an egg allergy. Most of the sauces are aiolis (i.e. mayo-based), which is pretty limiting. However, I very much enjoy the Mexican Chimichurri. It adds a freshness to the taco that goes really well with both the chicken and pulled pork (which are my two favorites right now).

The last thing I want to highlight on the menu is the Sweet Lucy taco shell. Yep, that’s right, they also have several exciting taco shell options. The Sweet Lucy is a hard shell wrapped in a soft shell. How do they stick together? Three words: queso and guacamole. I assure you, there will be no regrets.

Conclusion

Not only is Condado delicious, approachable, and reasonably priced, but they are also very egg allergy friendly. In my experience, they are very careful that you only get what you ask for. I’ve never had my order any less than perfect in regards to what I ordered. Also, they have several gluten-free and vegan options for those of you with gluten or dairy allergies! The staff are always super friendly and helpful if you have any questions. I love Condado and hope you will too.

I can’t wait to hear all about your experience at Condado! I’m always looking for places to review next, so if you have any ideas please reach out. I’m mostly looking for places in Columbus, but I’m excited by the idea of traveling somewhere new to try egg free options too! Any and all recommendations are welcome. Happy eating – especially if it’s tacos!
